16bit is faster, so I'm told, because [amiga] graphics cards can write the
16bits in one go, insted of having to write 16bits in one cycle, and then
write another 8 in another cycle. And at 800x600, 16bit should give you enough
colors to cover the screen, maybe.

No idea, but its playable, that is it's not slow enough for me to notice it
being slow, until you go into a large area, it chugs a bit then.
